The project is currently owned by Eskom Holdings SOC.
It is a steam turbine power plant that is used for Baseload. The fuel is procured from duvha opencast mine of ingwe group.
The project cost is $619.96m.

The project construction commenced in 1975 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in August 1980.

GE Power was selected as the turbine supplier for thermal power project. The project consists of 6 units of Multi Cylinder, Impulse Reaction turbines, each with 600MW nameplate capacity.
