Power industry contracts in September 2021: Europe leads global activity

On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 160 contracts and a share of 47.3% during September 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 80 contracts and a 23.7% share and North America with 56 contracts and a 16.6% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 29 contracts and an 8.6% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 13 contracts and a 3.8% share.

Wind tops by technology in September 2021

Looking at contracts by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 128 contracts and a 43.7% share, followed by solar with 115 contracts and a 39.2% share and thermal with 26 contracts and an 8.9% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment during September 2021, with 146 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (82) and Electricity Procurement (69).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 146 contracts and a 43.2% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 92 contracts and a 27.2% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 58 contracts and a 17.2% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 22 contracts and a 6.5% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 15 contracts and a 4.4% share
  6. Electricity Supply: four contracts and a 1.2% share
  7. Others: one contract and a 0.3% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. AO ATC (Russia): 2,722.08MW from 58 contracts
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,440MW from ten contracts
  3. Sun Ba Power (Taiwan): 1,100MW capacity from one contract.

Power contracts in September 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Fortum-Rusnano Wind Investment Fund (Russia): 1,390.5MW from 31 contracts
  2. CTCI (Taiwan) and Siemens Energy (Germany): 1,100MW from one contract
  3. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India), TotalEnergies (France) and PowerChina Hubei Engineering (China): 1,000MW capacity from one contract.
