Description

The project was developed by Jaiprakash Associates and NHDC. The project is currently owned by NHDC.

Indira Sagar is a reservoir based project. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 8 in number. The penstock length is 157m. The penstock diameter is 8m. The project generated 2,698 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $996m.

Development Status

The project got commissioned in 2004.

Contractors Involved

Bharat Heavy Electricals was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 8 units of francis turbines, each with 125MW nameplate capacity.

Bharat Heavy Electricals supplied 8 electric generators for the project.
