Liyang is a pumped storage project. The gross head and net head of the project are 291m and 253m respectively. The project generated 2,007 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $1,198.89m.

Harbin Electric Machinery was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The project consists of 6 units of Francis turbines, each with 250MW nameplate capacity.
