Malana, India

Malana is an 86MW hydro power project. It is located on Malana river/basin in Himachal Pradesh, India. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 1999 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2001.

Description

The project was developed by Malana Power. LNJ Bhilwara Group and SN Power are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 51% and 49% respectively.

Malana is a run-of-river project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 2.35 million cubic meter. The gross head of the project is 480m. The penstock length is 850m. The penstock diameter is 2.2m. The project generated 350 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $70m.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 1999 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2001.

Power Purchase Agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to PTC India under a power purchase agreement.

Contractors Involved

Bharat Heavy Electricals was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 2 units of pelton turbines, each with 43MW nameplate capacity.
