Description

The project was developed by Africa Energy Development, Globeleq and Malindi Solar Group. Globeleq Africa and Africa Energy Development are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 90% and 10% respectively.

Malindi Solar PV Park is a ground-mounted solar project which is spread over an area of 651 acres.

The project supplies enough clean energy to power 250,000 households, offsetting 44,500t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year.

The project consists of 157,000 modules.

Development status

The project construction commenced in 2019 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in December 2021.

Power purchase agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to Kenya Power and Lighting under a power purchase agreement for a period of 20 years. The contracted capacity is 40MW.

Contractors involved

Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy was selected to render engineering procurement construction services for the solar PV power project.
