Power plant contracts in October 2021 saw 104 contracts announced, marking a drop of 33% over the last 12-month average of 156, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 88 contracts and an 84.6% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: seven contracts and a 6.7% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: six contracts and a 5.8% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 2.9% share.

Asia-Pacific leads power plant activity in October 2021

Comparing contracts activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 31 contracts and a share of 29.8% during October 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with 28 contracts and a 26.9% share and Europe with 27 contracts and a 26% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant contracts in October 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 70 contracts with a 65.4% share, followed by wind with 27 contracts and a 25.2% share and hydro with four contracts and a 3.7% share.

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Department of Energy, South Africa (South Africa): 2,331MW from 19 contracts
  2. Energy Bureau of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region: 1,550MW from one contract
  3. Ministry of Electricity, Iraq (Iraq), Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Kazakhstan) and National Investment Commission, Iraq: 1,000MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. H1 Holdings (South Africa): 1,911MW from 16 contracts
  2. Mainstream Renewable Power South Africa (South Africa) and Globeleq Africa (United Kingdom): 1,274MW from 12 contracts
  3. Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates) and Total Eren (France): 1,000MW capacity from one contract.
