Power plant contracts up 60% in October 2019

Power plant contracts in October 2019 saw 194 contracts announced, marking a rise of 60% over the last 12-month average of 121, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 176 contracts and a 90.7% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: nine contracts and a 4.6% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: five contracts and a 2.6% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four contracts and a 2.1% share.

South and Central America leads power plant activity in October 2019

Comparing contracts activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, South and Central America held the top position with 92 contracts and a share of 47.4% during October 2019, followed by Europe with 62 contracts and a 32% share and Asia-Pacific with 25 contracts and a 12.9% share.

Wind is leading technology for power plant contracts in October 2019

Among the technologies, wind accounted for 78 contracts with a 40% share, followed by solar with 69 contracts and a 35.4% share and hydro with 30 contracts and a 15.4% share.

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Agencia Nacional de Energia Eletrica, Brazil (Brazil): 2,979.17MW from 91 contracts
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 960MW from four contracts
  3. Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (Nepal): 918MW capacity from two contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Siemens (Germany): 1,150MW from two contracts
  2. Power Construction Corporation of China (China): 918MW from two contracts
  3. Harbin Electric (China): 900MW capacity from one contract.
