The project was developed by G&S Engineering Services and is currently owned by Mackay Sugar.
The electricitiy generated from the plant has offsetted 200,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year. The project cost is $120m.
Racecourse Biomass Power Plant is a combined heat and power (CHP) project. Bagasse which is a kind of agricultural by-product is used as a feedstock to power the project.
The project got commissioned in March 2013.
Power Purchase Agreement
The power generated from the project is sold to Ergon Energy under a power purchase agreement.
Shin Nippon Machinery was selected as the steam turbine supplier for the project. The company provided 1 turbine with 38MW nameplate capacity.
