Sancheong, South Korea

Sancheong is a 700MW hydro power project. It is located on Deokcheon river/basin in South Gyeongsang, South Korea. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 1995 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2001.

Description

The project is currently owned by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power.

Sancheong is a pumped storage project. The gross head of the project is 429.5m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 2 in number. The penstock length is 120m. The penstock diameter is 3.7m. The project generated 621.426 GWh of electricity.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 1995 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2001.

Contractors Involved

GE Renewable Energy was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 2 turbines, each with 350MW nameplate capacity.

GE Renewable Energy supplied 2 electric generators for the project.
