Description
The project was developed by TradeWind Energy and is currently owned by Enel Green Power North America with a stake of 100%.
The project supplies enough clean energy to power 85,000 households, offsetting 750,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year.
Development Status
The project is currently active. The project got commissioned in February 2008.
Power Purchase Agreement
City of Independence Power & Light Department, City Utilities of Springfield, Kansas City Board of Public Utilities , Midwest Energy and Sunflower Electric Power are the power offtakers from the project.
Contractors Involved
M. A. Mortenson was selected to render EPC services for the wind power project.
Smoky Hills (Smoky Hills Phase 1) is equipped with Vestas Wind Systems V80-1.8 MW turbines. The phase consists of 56 turbines with 1.8MW nameplate capacity.
Smoky Hills (Smoky Hills Phase 2) is equipped with GE Renewable Energy 1.5-77 turbines. The phase consists of 99 turbines with 1.5MW nameplate capacity.
Vestas UpWind Solutions and Vestas Wind Systems were contracted to render operations & maintenance services for the project.
