Teesta V is a 510MW hydro power project. It is located on Teesta river/basin in Sikkim, India. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 1999 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2008.

Description

The project is developed and owned by NHPC.

Teesta V is a run-of-river with pondage project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 13.5 million cubic meter. The net head of the project is 197m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 3 in number. The penstock length is 321m. The project generated 2,572 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $534.406m.

Power Purchase Agreement

Damodar Valley, Department of Power, Sikkim, GRIDCO and Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam are the power offtakers from the project.

Contractors Involved

Jaiprakash Associates was selected to render EPC services for the hydro power project.

Toshiba India was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 3 units of francis turbines, each with 170MW nameplate capacity.

Toshiba India supplied 3 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 189 MVA.
