Waneta is a 493MW hydro power project. It is located on Pend d’Oreille river/basin in British Columbia, Canada. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 1951 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1954.

Description

The project was developed by Teck Cominco. Teck Resources and BC Hydro are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 66.67% and 33.33% respectively.

Waneta is a reservoir based project. The gross head of the project is 63.2m. Waneta underwent through rehabilitation & modernization during 1995, 2002, 2003, 2007.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 1951 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1954.

Contractors Involved

The turbines for the hydro power project have been supplied by Andritz Hydro and Voith Hydro Holding.

The electric generators for the project were procured from Andritz Hydro and Voith Hydro Holding.

FortisBC is the O&M contractor for the hydro power project.
