Wuqiangxi, China

Wuqiangxi is a 1,200MW hydro power project. It is located on Yuanshui river/basin in Hunan, China. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 1986 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1994.

Description

The project was developed by Wuling Power. China Power International Development, CGN New Energy Holdings and Hunan Xiangtou Holding Group are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 63%, 18.5% and 18.5% respectively.

The hydro reservoir capacity is 4,350 million cubic meter. The project generated 6,520.52 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $1,020.6m.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 1986 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1994.

Power Purchase Agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to State Grid Corporation of China under a power purchase agreement.

Contractors Involved

Voith Hydro Shanghai was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 5 units of francis turbines, each with 248MW nameplate capacity.

Wuling Power Corporation, Ltd. is a China based hydro power generation company. Presently, it owns and operates 72 MW Hunan Dongping hydropower project, located in Hunan province, China.
