Swedish renewable energy solutions provider Azelio has completed the installation of its renewable energy storage system in Morocco’s Noor Ouarzazate solar complex.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by government representatives from various countries.
Azelio said that the installation is part of a joint technical and business development agreement with the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Masen).
The storage facility is designed to store energy from solar and wind power and make it available in the form of electricity and heat at every hour of the day.
Masen CEO Mustapha Bakkoury said: “Our collaboration with Azelio is a good example of Masen’s R&D strategy to evaluate, co-develop and promote disruptive solutions. We are proud that Azelio’s energy storage is represented in the Noor Ouarzazate solar complex.”

By GlobalDataEquipped with recycled aluminium as a storage medium, the system is said to be free from rare minerals, ensuring no reduced capacity over time.
The company noted that its energy storage system is scalable from 100kW to 100MW, filling a void in the market and moving closer to providing sustainable and affordable energy for everyone.

In the first quarter of 2020, the company will carry out a verification of the storage. Azelio expects commercial installations to begin later in the year, with volume production to start in 2021.
Last November, Azelio teamed up with Biodico to develop 120MW in thermal energy storage projects in California by 2024.
