Global infrastructure group Balfour Beatty has received a multi-million-pound contract from Ørsted to build an onshore substation for the offshore wind farm, Hornsea Project Two.

The onshore substation will be built on the east coast of England and will transform the power produced by the wind farm before connecting to the National Grid.

The wind farm will become operational in 2022 and will have the capacity to supply clean electricity to more than 1.3 million homes. It is expected to exceed the capacity of its sister project Hornsea Project One.

Balfour Beatty, which supported the enabling works phase earlier this year, will now begin main build works that are slated for completion in 2020.
