Cable systems provider for energy and telecom sectors, Prysmian Group (Prysmian) has been contracted to supply and install submarine inter-array cable systems for offshore wind farms in France.

Two contracts have been awarded by Eolien Maritime France, a joint venture (JV) company of EDF Energies Nouvelles and Canadian company Enbridge.

As per the terms of the contracts, Prysmian will design, supply and install inter-array cables for the two offshore wind farms, Fécamp and Courseulles-sur-Mer, which is owned by EMF and wpd offshore, located off the North France coast.

“These new important awards confirm that we have all the capabilities to achieve our ambitious growth targets in the offshore wind farm market.”

The two contracts are worth over €200m ($233m) and are expected to commence in early autumn.

The Fécamp project will connect the 83 wind turbine generators (WTG’s) with a total capacity of 498MW, while Courseulles-sur-Mer will connect 75 WTGs with a total capacity of 450MW.

The third contract, with a value of more than €20m ($23m), is for Saint Nazaire wind farm, which is owned by Eolien Maritime France. This contract is currently in the process of being secured in a consortium between Prysmian and Louis Dreyfus Travocean.

For these projects, Prysmian will provide cable, accessories and terminating services to the 80 WTGs for the 480MW capacity of Saint Nazaire.

“Our investments have strengthened both our production capacity and installation capabilities and the market is showing its confidence in us.”

Upon completion, the three wind projects are expected to become large-scale offshore wind farms in France.

For these projects, Prysmian will provide a total of about 345km of 33KV three–core submarine cable systems with XLPE insulation.

Based on the individual project timelines, the delivery and commissioning of the cables are expected to take place between 2020 and 2022.
