The company’s projects in the US and Australia will feature Canadian Solar’s polycrystalline bifacial high-power BiHiKu (CS3W-PB-AG) and HiKu (CS3W-P) solar modules.

Lightsource BP chief operating officer Kareen Boutonnat said: “Our centralised procurement team selected these modules for their high-efficiency performance and we look forward to seeing the satisfactory results in the field very soon.”

According to the agreement, Canadian Solar will supply 1.2GW of solar modules for Lightsource BP projects in the US and Australia.

The company said that its bifacial modules will have the capacity to generate power from the front and the rear sides of the module.

BiHiKu (CS3W-PB-AG) generates up to 30% of additional power from the backside and 24 % more front-side power compared with conventional modules.

Canadian Solar chairman and CEO Dr Shawn Qu said: “We are excited about the strong partnership with Lightsource BP that has contributed to the 1.2GW of module sales commitments. As a solar technology leader, we are working continuously on innovation.

“I am proud to see that our high-power modules based on the latest bifacial technology have been selected for these projects in Australia and the US.”

In September 2019, Lightsource BP, Xcel Energy and EVRAZ North America signed a long-term agreement to build a new solar facility in Pueblo, US, with a capacity of 240MW.
