US-based power company Dominion Energy has reached an agreement to supply clean energy to Facebook from its 100MW Sadler Solar facility.
The new partnership is part of Facebook’s strategy to power its global operations with 100% renewable energy by the end of this year.
Dominion Energy business development vice-president Emil Avram said: “Partnerships with companies like Facebook help drive the addition of renewable energy to the grid.
“We are honoured to work with them to help meet their sustainability goals as well as continue to expand renewable energy across the Dominion Energy service area.”
Located in Greensville County, Virginia, the Sadler Solar facility received approval from the Virginia State Corporation Commission last month.

The US-based power company will build, own and operate the Sadler Solar facility while Facebook will purchase clean energy generated by the site, which will be the eighth solar facility developed by Dominion Energy in Virginia and North Carolina.
Facebook Renewable Energy head Urvi Parekh said: “We are proud to continue to grow our partnership with Dominion Energy by adding this new 100MW project to the grid.
“Since 2017, this partnership has resulted in over 690MW of new solar energy in Virginia and North Carolina and has helped strengthen the renewable energy market in the region.”
Dominion Energy further explained that the partnerships with renewable energy buyers such as Facebook would support Dominion Energy’s goal of adding 3,000MW of new solar and wind energy in operation or under development in Virginia by 2022.
Last April, Dominion Energy and Facebook formed a partnership for six new solar projects in Virginia and North Carolina.
Expected to come online by mid-this year, the facilities will have an energy capacity of 350MW and be dedicated to Facebook.
