Singapore-based battery manufacturer Durapower has signed a memorandum of understanding with two technology firms, Pozbud and Elmodis, to build a battery manufacturing plant in Poland.

The facility will be engaged in the production of lithium-ion batteries for use in containerised energy storage systems (ESS).

The plant is expected to be built in several phases. Once operational, it will have an annual production capacity of up to 2GWh.

It will feature a full range of maintenance services such as predictive maintenance, data analytics and technical expertise in the industrial Internet of Things (IoT), as well as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), manufacturing and construction capabilities.

The strategic partnership with Durapower will allow Pozbud and Elmodis to create ‘Made In Europe’ containerised ESS products under the Durapower brand.

It also formalises the mutual interaction between Durapower, Pozbud and Elmodis and strengthens their existing relationship at both strategic and working levels.

The partnership is expected to provide European energy companies with direct access to the alternative source for ESS.

It is also expected to help in reducing carbon emissions across the region from their current level to 20% by 2050.

Durapower CEO Kelvin Lim said: “This partnership cements our commitment to giving energy companies in the European Union an alternative to renewable energy sourcing, providing localised supply chain of lithium-ion batteries and high-quality after-sales experience while driving towards a goal of a net-zero carbon footprint.”

Pozbud CEO Lukasz Fojt said: “We are excited to open up Europe to an alternative energy source and develop the local supply chain through this new manufacturing facility.

“Delivering excellent customer experiences is crucial to us and we know that with such top-quality business partners as Durapower and Elmodis, we can provide the best solutions in the field of Energy Storage Solutions with an equally outstanding service level.”
