GE’s Grid Solutions business, in partnership with the Ethiopian Electric Power, has completed a $40m Electricity Transmission System Improvement turnkey project.

The project is in line with Ethiopia’s Growth and Transformation Plan and is expected to improve electricity access in the region by transferring bulk electric power to the southern and south-western parts of the country.

Ethiopian Electric Power project manager Wudineh Yemane said: “This project will support overall electrification plans of Ethiopia, provide sustainable power and allow the transmission of reliable power from the interconnected system to demand centres across the country and in the region.

“This project will significantly reduce high transmission losses while improving system efficiency, stability and reliability.”

“It will facilitate the implementation of the Universal Electrification Access programme as well as government’s ambition to export energy to Sudan.”

GE Power’s Grid Solutions business offers a complete engineered solution for the high voltage (HV) substations to power generation companies, utilities, and industries.
