US-based infrastructure construction firm Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives (IEA) has secured a contract to build a 150MW wind farm in the state of Iowa.

The $65m contract was secured by IEA’s subsidiary White Construction, which manages utility-scale renewable energy and heavy civil infrastructure projects.

Located in northern Iowa, the wind farm will generate approximately 600,000MWh of clean energy annually that will be sufficient to power roughly 70,000 homes.

The 150MW wind farm is expected to be completed in November this year.

For this project, White Construction will be responsible for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) works.

Specifically, it will build access roads, establish wind generators, turbine foundations deployment and project substations and a medium-voltage collection system.

The Iowa Environmental Council said that the state’s installed capacity will be more than 10,000MW in the coming years. This new wind project will also be contributing to this capacity.

Moreover, the US state generated over 30% of its electricity from wind.

To date, IEA has assembled over 7,200 wind turbines in North America.

Last December, IEA through its IEA Constructors division secured two wind farm construction projects in Texas worth $115m.
