JDR Cable Systems (JDR) has secured a contract from Luxembourg’s Jan De Nul Group to supply equipment for Taiwan’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm, Formosa 1.

The offshore wind farm is being developed by Formosa Wind Power, a partnership of Macquarie Capital (50%), Orsted (35%) and Swancor Renewable Energy (15%).

As part of the contract, JDR will be responsible for delivering 21km of inter-array cable, 13km of export cable and a further 16km of land cable, to be used for transmission of power from the shore to the local substation.

"Phase one of the Formosa 1 has already commenced its operations with two offshore wind turbines generating a capacity of 8MW."

JDR will begin manufacturing 33kV cables in the fourth quarter of this year at its facility in Hartlepool, UK.

The cables will be shipped to Taiwan for installation by Jan De Nul. The project is slated for completion by next year.

JDR chief executive officer Richard Turner said: “Our customers are our partners – we work collaboratively to deliver reliable solutions for even the most challenging projects.
