US-based communications company Kymeta has expanded its distribution network to include FMC GlobalSat to support remote alternative energy facilities.

The new collaboration will implement efficient and reliable satellite communications and internet connectivity to wind, solar, geothermal, and other renewable energy facilities.

The renewable energy market was previously limited to fiber optic cables and microwave point-to-point systems.

Besides being expensive, these options do not provide reliable connectivity, which creates issues for facilities where power grids require consistent load balancing, monitoring, and security, as well as safety protocol and asset management.

Kymeta Business Development vice-president Steve Sybeldon said: “Renewable energy operations most often exist in remote locations far away from major metropolitan areas and have few or no options for connectivity.
