Ørsted subsidiary Lincoln Clean Energy (LCE) has acquired a 103MW construction-ready wind project in Butte County, South Dakota, US.

The company has purchased the project from Pattern Energy Group, a renewable energy company with wind and solar assets in the US, Canada and Japan.

The project is expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Combined with Nebraska’s Plum Creek windfarm, planned for construction in 2020, the latest acquisition expands LCE’s operations into the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) market, covering central US.

Lincoln Clean Energy CEO Declan Flanagan said: “The acquisition of this South Dakota windfarm adds to our growing portfolio of onshore wind assets and continues to broaden the geographic footprint of our asset base into the important SPP market.”

In May, the company announced that it has acquired the development business of Coronal Energy, a developer focused on utility-scale solar and energy storage projects.

The acquisition includes Coronal Energy’s development team, as well as solar and storage projects in the US, which include multiple projects that have secured long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with utility counterparties.

Flanagan had said: “I am delighted to welcome the Coronal development team to LCE and the wider Ørsted family. This experienced team complements our U.S. development platform, greatly enhances our presence in solar and storage, and brings important new customer relationships through multiple long-term power purchase agreements both signed and in negotiation.”

Coronal Energy founder and CEO Jonathan Jaffrey said: “Congratulations to Ørsted, LCE and the Coronal development team for establishing what is one of the most dynamic and experienced renewable teams in the industry.”

Ørsted is involved in the development, construction and operation of offshore windfarms, bioenergy plants and innovative waste-to-energy solutions. It also provides smart energy products to its customers.
