Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) power transmission and distribution business has secured a contract for a major project in India, among others.

Under the contract, the company will install three 400kV substations and transmission lines the Indian state of Telangana. It will also install reactors and associated bay extensions at the substations, with more than 170km of 400kV transmission links, on a turnkey basis.

L&T also secured a contract in Northern India from Aerial Bunched Cables for replacing bare conductors, alongside additional orders from ongoing transmission line projects.

Konkan Railway awarded a contract to fit out two tunnels in the Katra Dharam section of the Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla rail link project. L&T will provide a 33kV and 11kV HT power cable network, a GIS substation, DG sets, firefighting systems and a SCADA system.

In addition to the domestic contracts, L&T’s power business secured a contract in Oman from an undisclosed customer.

Under this contract, the unit will be responsible for constructing 400kV overhead lines, integrated with three grid stations. However, L&T did say the contract is a repeat order and came from a ‘reputed client’ in the Middle East region.

Once completed, the transmission lines will connect three major transmission systems. The project is expected to improve dispatch coordination and grid security. Additionally, it will enhance access to areas with renewable energy potential and enable reserves sharing.

Last August, Larsen & Toubro’s Power business secured an engineering, procurement and construction contract from National Thermal Power Corporation.
