Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has secured a seven-year long-term parts management and services contract from Turkish independent power producer (IPP) Gurmat Electric Generation (Gurmat) for its Germencik Geothermal Power Plant.

Under the terms of the agreement, MHPS will be responsible for parts management and providing services at the Germencik plant, including the dispatch of engineers.

The agreement, which includes two power generating facilities driven by MHPS 47.5MW steam turbines, was concluded through MHPS’ European subsidiary.

"Gurmat has a total operating capacity of 185MW and power plants with a capacity factor of more than 95% and 99.85% availability."

Located in the city of Aydin, the Germencik Geothermal Power Plant comprises GalipHoca (Unit 1) and Efe-1 (Unit 2), which started commercial operations in 2009 and 2015, respectively.

For both units the steam turbines manufactured at the Nagasaki Works were supplied by MHPS, while Mitsubishi Electric Corporation manufactured the generators.

Gurmat has a total operating capacity of 185MW and power plants with a capacity factor of more than 95% and 99.85% availability.

Currently, the company is developing 160MW in new capacity from geothermal power plants.

MHPS said that it will continue to offer geothermal power generating equipment and facilities, and will contribute to the growth of low-carbon power generation.

In a separate development, MHPS has concluded an agreement with Japan’s Kansai Electric Power for conducting a preparatory survey on power plant maintenance using new technologies such as IoT and AI in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

The work was contracted to the two companies by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

At present, Kansai Electric offers an engineering service for thermal power plants known as ‘Kansai-Value Creation Service’.
