A subsidiary of Japanese multinational company Mitsubishi, Diamond Transmission (DTC), has been selected as the preferred bidder for a new offshore transmission link in the UK.

This transmission asset will link the 353MW Galloper Offshore Windfarm with the Sizewell substation. This wind farm is located nearly 30km off the country’s eastern coast.

Valued at £329.1m, the offshore transmission link includes subsea and land cables and offshore and onshore substations.

This is the seventh offshore transmission link project in the UK for Mitsubishi.

Beginning from the second quarter of next year, Mitsubishi will execute the electricity transmission business for two decades after acquiring the asset and securing an Offshore Transmission Owner license from the UK’s Office of Gas and Electricity Markets.

“This transmission asset will link the 353MW Galloper Offshore Windfarm with the Sizewell substation.”

Along with four other assets in Germany, the total count of power transmission assets held by DTC in Europe has increased to eleven, with a total transmission length of nearly 1,000km and a power transmission capacity of around 5.3GW.
