Wärtsilä has secured a contract from China Gezhouba Group Cooperation UN Power (CGGC UN Power) in China to supply a 30MW combined heat and power (CHP) plant.

The project is reported to be the first gas-fired medium-speed engine power plant in China and is expected to support the country's energy systems.

As part of the agreement, Wärtsilä will supply equipment and 34SG natural gas-fuelled engines, commencing operations by next year.

CGGC UN Power's president Lu said: “We are happy to build the first gas-fired power plant in China together with Wärtsilä. We trust Wärtsilä’s technology and its people, and we are sure that this project will be a success.

“With CHP technology, we can not only provide power, but also heating and cooling for our ever growing commercial and residential construction industry.”

Parent company China Gezhouba Group Cooperation (CGGC) is a state-owned enterprise engaged in construction, environmental protection, real estate, cement, civil explosives, finance, and equipment manufacturing.

CGGC UN Power focuses on the integrated service for various distributed energy solutions, including gas engine power plants, and making investments in Chinese power generation sectors.

The Guangdong Huadian Panyu Wanbo CBD Distributed Energy Project power plant is located at Guangzhou and the energy generated will be fed into the national grid.
