Petrofac has signed a preferred supplier agreement with SSE Renewables for the Seagreen wind farm project in Scotland.

According to the agreement, the company will be responsible for design, supply and installation of HVAC onshore and offshore substations for the Seagreen project.

Petrofac Group Engineering and Construction managing director Elie Lahoud said: “We have been involved in a number of similar projects in the North Sea and are delighted to have been appointed to be part of the Seagreen project, which will be Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm.

“This will enable us to continue to grow our capability and experience in offshore wind and supports our diversification into renewable energy. Along with the wider team involved, I look forward to the safe and quality delivery of both the onshore and offshore substations.”

Located 27km off the coast of Angus, Seagreen wind farm is wholly owned by SSE Renewables, which secured exclusive development rights from The Crown Estate for the Firth of Forth Zone of the UK’s Round 3 offshore wind farm development programme.

The project is expected to generate clean energy that will be sufficient to power approximately one million homes in the region. Following the completion, it will be the largest wind farm in Scotland.

Based on a final investment decision expected in the coming months, Petrofac’s offshore substation work would cover engineering, procurement, fabrication, transportation, offshore installation and commissioning of the offshore substation. It will also be responsible for the topside, jacket and piles.

The company’s onshore substation engineering, procurement and production (EPC) contract would include civil works and major equipment.

Last August, Petrofac completed BorWin3 offshore wind grid project for the German-Dutch transmission grid operator TenneT.
