US-based Seattle City Light (SCL) has selected GE Renewable Energy to rebuild three generators in the 1,117MW Boundary Dam powerhouse.

The project is expected to further improve generator output performance by +12%, as well as enhance the grid stability.

Located on the Pend Oreille River in Northeastern Washington State, Boundary Dam supplies up to 30% of SCL’s annual energy needs.

Under the contract, GE Renewable Energy will rebuild powerhouse generators 51, 52, and 54 (3 x 145 MVA) and will also be responsible for engineering and site work.

The rehabilitation is expected to allow safe operation for the next four decades.

GE Renewable Energy’s teams intend to begin onsite work on the generators covered in this project in July next year, with completion expected by May 2022.
