Sembcorp Green Infra has won a development contract for a 400MW solar power project from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

The subsidiary of Sembcorp Energy India (SEIL) said that it has received a letter of award from SECI for the project in the Indian state of Rajasthan.

The solar project will start operations in mid-2022 and will use a combination of internal funds and debt to finance construction. Energy from the solar facility will supply SECI under a 25-year long-term power purchase agreement.

Once operational, the facility will connect to the state’s transmission utility Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam.

By securing the solar project, Sembcorp has increased its renewables portfolio to more than 3GW in operation and development across Singapore, China and India.

SEIL is the first independent power producer to commission 800MW of wind projects awarded from three earlier SECI bids.

Last May, Sembcorp Industries secured a contract to build a 60MW floating solar photovoltaic system in Singapore.
