Siemens has secured a contract to increase the capacity of the Genelba gas-fired power plant in Argentina from its existing 168MW to around 364MW.

Named Genelba Plus expansion project, Siemens will provide a SGT5-2000E gas turbine, a SST-5-5000 steam turbine, and two SGen-100A generators, as well as two NEM heat recovery steam generators, a SPPA-T3000 distributed control system, and medium and high-voltage components.

“Following project completion, the existing Genelba power station in Marcos Paz will be converted into a combined-cycle power plant.”

Siemens will also be responsible for the engineering, assembly, and commissioning of the expanded plant, which will be operated by Pampa Energía.

The company will work with its Argentine partner Techint to undertake the overall expansion.

Siemens Power and Gas Latin America sales vice-president José Aparicio said: “This contract represents a continuation of the outstanding track record we have built up in the past two years, and underscores our commitment to the electricity generation market in Argentina.”

Following project completion, the existing Genelba power station in Marcos Paz will be converted into a combined-cycle power plant.
