Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has secured a contract to supply wind turbines for the Ras Ghareb Wind Energy farm on the Gulf of Suez in Egypt.
The contract was awarded by a consortium comprising French energy group ENGIE, Japanese independent power providers Toyota Tsusho and Eurus Energy, and Egyptian engineering and construction firm Orascom Construction.

The deal includes delivery and installation of 125 G97-2.1MW turbines, which are capable of generating 262.5MW of renewable electricity.
Installation of the turbines is expected to be completed by July next year, with plans to commence operation by the end of that year.
Besides the supply and commissioning arrangement, Siemens Gamesa will also provide maintenance services for the windfarm for a period of 15 years.
The project is claimed to be one of the first privately-backed windfarms being developed in Egypt.
