Siemens has secured a turnkey contract worth about €450m from Compagnie Electrique de Bretagne to build a new combined-cycle power plant in Landivisiau in western France.
Compagnie Electrique de Bretagne is now fully owned by French gas and energy provider Total Direct Énergie (TDE), a subsidiary of Total.
Total Direct Énergie CEO Xavier Caïtucoli said: “Thanks to its flexibility, our new power plant in Landivisiau will be ideal for balancing out the fluctuating infeed from wind and solar plants.
“It will therefore make a crucial contribution to supply security in the region. The efficient gas turbine technology from Siemens and their participation during the project development phase were important factors in successfully implementing this project.”
With an installed capacity of 446MW, the new power plant is expected to meet Brittany’s growing electricity demands. Siemens has agreed to operate and maintain the plant for 20 years.

By GlobalDataSiemens’ financing arm Siemens Financial Services (SFS) held an equity stake in the project, ensuring stability during the complete development phase, as the power plant is expected to be commissioned in the second half of 2021.
Siemens will be responsible for the turnkey construction and supply of an SGT5-4000F gas turbine, an SST5-3000 steam turbine, an SGen5-2000H generator, the heat-recovery steam generator, and the SPPA-T3000 control system. It will also provide remote diagnostic services, which are part of the Omnivise Digital Service portfolio.
Siemens Gas and Power CEO Karim Amin said: “With Landivisiau, we are developing and building a modern combined cycle power plant that will play a major role in supporting the security of electricity supply in France utilising Siemens’ efficient and environmentally friendly technology.
“Our advanced power plant technology and our first-rate operation and maintenance services will ensure that the plant continues to operate economically and reliably for a long time to come.”
In July 2019, Siemens received a contract worth €280m ($313m) to deliver key components and long-term power generation services for the 840MW Maisan combined cycle power plant in Iraq.
