Siemens has secured a contract from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to supply three SGT5-4000F gas turbines to the Al Aweer power plant.

The turbines will be used in the power plant complex’s Unit H Phase 4, nearly 35km from downtown Dubai.

DEWA has awarded the project engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to Siemens in a consortium led by the Egypt-based EL Sewedy Electric through its subsidiary Elsewedy Power.

The SGT5-4000F gas turbines have an electrical power generating capacity of 815MW. Turbines are expected to increase the plant complex’s total power output to more than 2.8GW.

“With an electrical power generating capacity of 815MW, the turbines are expected to increase the plant complex’s total power output to more than 2.8GW.”

The three turbines trains are scheduled for commercial commissioning in 2020.

Siemens Power and Gas Middle East and North Africa (MENA) sales vice-president Jean Claude Nasr said: “This new order from DEWA is another proof of the great trust that the Government of Dubai places in Siemens technology.

“For more than 20 years, we have been working successfully with DEWA to continuously improve Dubai’s local power generation infrastructure and help to ensure sufficient and reliable power supply in this Middle Eastern metropolis.”

Siemens will supply three SGT5-4000F gas turbines, three SGen5-1200A generators, and the control system SPPA-T3000, as well as assembly and commissioning on-site.

The F-class gas turbine technology is expected to help the Unit H Phase 4 meet high energy demand during the UAE’s summer season.
