Bristol-based energy equipment and solutions company, Thrive Renewables and Bristol Energy have announced a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 3.55MW of renewable electricity. This agreement will power almost 3,000 homes from two onshore windfarms in Suffolk and Aberdeenshire.

The new PPA for the power generated by Thrive’s 2.75MW wind turbine at Ness Point will provide energy for 2,225 UK homes. The agreement for the single, 0.8MW Auchtygills turbine in Aberdeenshire will power an additional 700 homes.

Both companies said that they are committed to the city’s target of being carbon-neutral by 2030 by driving renewable energy growth and making green power more accessible to all.

After Thrive invested in the project, the Orbis Energy Centre has been established nearby, which houses a range of organisations supporting the renewables sector.

Thrive managing director Matthew Clayton said: “Bristol declared a climate emergency and rolled out ambitious plans to become carbon-neutral.

“This means that collaborations across the city are now vital to deliver these goals and reduce harmful emissions. This deal is a positive step on Bristol’s journey.”

The council announced that it had cut its carbon emissions by 71% two years ahead of schedule, and also launched its City Leap project to help reduce emissions.

Bristol Energy renewables and origination manager Simon Proctor said: “This deal is an important part of our purpose to create a sustainable energy company, which has social value at its heart.

“We believe one of the most socially responsible things we can do is to get to supplying 100% renewable energy and this deal will help us in our journey. And importantly, the value from the deal is retained locally.”
