Total’s renewable energy subsidiary Total Quadran has been awarded 131MWp of solar projects, as well as 5.6MWp of solar in the French Overseas departments and collectivities.

The company was awarded these projects by the French Energy Regulatory Commission under the seventh round of tenders.

Total Quadran general manager Thierry Muller said: “Total Quadran is proud to rank among France’s renewable energy leaders. The results of this call for tenders illustrate our ability to put together solid, competitive bids in an increasingly competitive environment.

“Total’s program to solarise industrial facilities by enhancing brownfield sites is a key factor in this success which we intend to carry on.”

The projects awarded by the French authorities include a 50MWp solar plant in Valenciennes, a commune in northern France. The solar plant is claimed to be the largest project awarded in the tenders round and also the biggest project for Total Quadran to date.

The solar facility will be developed at Total’s former refinery site. Once operational in 2022, the power facility will generate clean energy that will be sufficient to meet the electricity requirements of nearly 32,000 people in the region.

Total Quadran will also develop a 25MWp photovoltaic (PV) solar power plant in the Greater Paris region near the Grandpuits refinery. Once operational in 2022, the solar PV facility is expected to generate renewable electricity to cover the needs of nearly 17,000 people.

Other projects in the winning tender include the 3MWp Lavéra project located in Bouches-du-Rhône, and the 5MWp Serpaize, as well as the 4MWp Brignoud facilities in Isère. All the plants will be developed on industrial brownfield sites.
