Global hybrid wireless communications solutions group Trilliant is partnering with Manx Utilities to deliver a robust hybrid communications platform to connect consumers with utility providers on the Isle of Man, a crown dependency off the west coast of Great Britain.

The companies will initially replace the old prepayment metering system with an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), which will connect nearly 50,000 properties.

It will use Trilliant’s Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) to improve coverage and overall performance across the island. These changes will provide the communications backbone that will enable the Isle of Man to embrace smart grid and smart city technologies.

Trilliant managing director Thomas Tipple said: “We are thrilled to partner with Manx Utilities. Along with other smart installations across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, Manx Utilities is a showcase example of how innovative companies are focused on building an open and secure communications platform that allows smart energy smart city and, indeed, smart island applications to integrate into a single hybrid wireless communications platform.

“Manx Utilities’ approach of vertical expansion into additional products and services perfectly matches the connection platform that Trilliant provides in order to connect with their clients and partners for reducing emissions by integrating renewable energy into their smart network.”

Manx Utilities chairman Dr Alex Allinson added: “It was crucial for us to partner with an organisation that will allow us to deliver a purpose-built network that is scalable and can easily support additional applications.
