Danish manufacturer Vestas has secured a new wind turbine supply contract for two projects located in central Jutland, Denmark.

The 63MW order was placed by sustainable developer Eurowind Energy for its St. Soels and Veddum Kær projects.

As per the terms of the agreement, Vestas will be responsible for installation and commissioning of 16 wind turbines.

Vestas Northern & Central Europe president Nils de Baar said: “Our ability to deliver tailor-made solutions that achieve maximum return on our customer’s investment and ensure the lowest cost of energy to the Danish energy consumers has been key in securing this auction win in our home market.

“This 100% auction success underlines onshore wind’s competitiveness and stresses the continued importance of Vestas’ home market in Denmark.

“We are proud to be our customers’ preferred partner and look forward to executing these projects and take part in the sustainable energy transition in Denmark.”

The St. Soels project will be equipped with seven V126-3.45MW turbines delivered in a 3.6MW power optimised mode. The Veddum Kær project will feature nine V136-4.2MW turbines.

Vestas intends to deliver turbines by the end of this year for the St. Soels project and for the Veddum Kær project, it will deliver the turbines in the second quarter of 2021.

Commissioning for St. Soels is expected to take place in the first quarter of 2021 and Veddum Kær by the third quarter of 2021.

Eurowind Energy CEO Jens Rasmussen said: “These two orders seal our longstanding collaboration with Vestas, and we look forward to strengthening this cooperation even further.

“Both projects will be hybrid projects with integrated wind and solar power plants to optimise grid capacities, and we are very proud to execute these milestone projects in Denmark.

“The 4MW platform from Vestas has with our experience shown to be a very reliable turbine technology, and we believe that these turbine types are the perfect match for St. Soels and Veddum Kær.”

Additionally, Vestas has agreed to provide maintenance for the wind turbines under a 20-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement.
