Global engineering company Worley has secured a contract from Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) for the London Array offshore wind farm.

As per the terms of the contract, Worley will be responsible for statutory inspections and general maintenance of wind‐turbine‐generator cranes and lifts across all turbines on the offshore wind farm.

The London Array offshore wind farm is located 20km off the coast of Kent in the UK. It is equipped with 175 turbines with a capacity of 630 MW.

It is estimated to supply clean energy to nearly 470,000 homes in the region, while displacing approximately 500,000t of carbon emissions annually.

Worley offers project delivery and expertise in engineering, procurement and construction. CEO Chris Ashton said: “I’m delighted that we have been chosen by SGRE to help deliver this strategically important project.

Worley noted the inspections and general maintenance works will be executed by its team in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

This contract follows the company’s acquisition of 3sun in October last year. This strengthened the company’s place in the offshore wind energy services sector.

In October 2018, US-based Jacobs Engineering Group agreed to sell its energy, chemicals and resources (ECR) segment to WorleyParsons for $3.3bn. The companies agreed this would include $2.6bn in cash and $700m in WorleyParsons ordinary shares.
