Power industry tenders in Asia-Pacific for December 2019 down 9%

Asia-Pacific power industry tenders activity in December 2019 saw 564 tenders announced, marking a drop of 9% over the last 12-month average of 622, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in December 2019: India leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, India led the activity in December 2019 with 375 tenders and a share of 66.5%, up 9% over the previous month and up 13% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by the Philippines with 102 tenders and a share of 18.1% and Bangladesh with 33 tenders and a share of 5.9% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 331 tenders, followed by Bangladesh with 96 and the Philippines with 85 tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in December 2019

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 92 tenders and a 52.9% share, followed by solar with 65 tenders and a 37.4% share and hydro with 13 tenders and a 7.5% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in December 2019, with 291 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (105) and Generation Equipment (81).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

1. Project Implementation: 260 tenders and a 46.1% share
2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 146 tenders and a 25.9% share
3. Supply & Erection: 143 tenders and a 25.4% share
4. Consulting & Similar Services: ten tenders and a 1.8% share
5. Power Purchase Agreement: four tenders and a 0.7% share
6. Electricity Supply: one tender and a 0.2% share.

Power tenders in December 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,400MW from two tenders
2. NTPC (India): 1,523.87MW from four tenders
3. Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (India): 250MW capacity from one tender.
