Power industry tenders in Asia-Pacific for December 2020 down 41%

Asia-Pacific power industry tenders activity in December 2020 saw 263 tenders announced, marking a drop of 41% over the last 12-month average of 449, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in December 2020: India leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, India led the activity in December 2020 with 177 tenders and a share of 67.3%, up 12% over the previous month and down 35% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Sri Lanka with 16 tenders and a share of 6.1% and Pakistan with 15 tenders and a share of 5.7% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 272 tenders, followed by the Philippines with 50 and Bangladesh with 45 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in December 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 47 tenders and a 51.6% share, followed by thermal with 27 tenders and a 29.7% share and hydro with 14 tenders and a 15.4% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in December 2020, with 104 tenders, followed by T&D Project (74) and Power Plant (52).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

1. Supply & Erection: 103 tenders and a 39.2% share
2. Project Implementation: 99 tenders and a 37.6% share
3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 57 tenders and a 21.7% share
4. Consulting & Similar Services: four tenders and a 1.5% share.

Power tenders in December 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

1. Andhra Pradesh Green Energy: 8,500MW from one tender
2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,220MW from two tenders
3. Bangalore Electricity Supply (India): 1,060MW capacity from one tender.
