Power industry tenders in Asia-Pacific for June 2021 down 48%

Asia-Pacific power industry tenders activity in June 2021 saw 153 tenders announced, marking a drop of 48% over the last 12-month average of 293, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in June 2021: Pakistan leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, Pakistan led the activity in June 2021 with 35 tenders and a share of 22.9%, down 3.1% over the previous month and up 6% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by the Philippines with 29 tenders and a share of 19% and India with 20 tenders and a share of 13.1% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 156 tenders, followed by Pakistan with 33 and the Philippines with 19 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in June 2021

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 36 tenders and a 48% share, followed by thermal with 32 tenders and a 42.7% share and hydro with four tenders and a 5.3% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in June 2021, with 53 tenders, followed by T&D Project (34) and Power Plant (33).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 68 tenders and a 44.4% share
  2. Project Implementation: 60 tenders and a 39.2% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 17 tenders and an 11.1% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: three tenders and a 2% share
  5. Electricity Supply: two tenders and a 1.3% share
  6. Others: two tenders and a 1.3% share
  7. Power Purchase Agreement: one tender and a 0.7% share.

Power tenders in June 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Gujarat Industries Power (India): 2,375MW from one tender
  2. Railway Energy Management (India): 755MW from two tenders
  3. Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (Australia): 600MW capacity from one tender.
