Power industry tenders in Asia-Pacific for September 2019 down 31%

Asia-Pacific power industry tenders activity in September 2019 saw 425 tenders announced, marking a drop of 31% over the last 12-month average of 620, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in September 2019: India leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, India led the activity in September 2019 with 254 tenders and a share of 59.8%, up 9.8% over the previous month and down 21% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by the Philippines with 59 tenders and a share of 13.9% and Bangladesh with 55 tenders and a share of 12.9% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 321 tenders, followed by Bangladesh with 101 and the Philippines with 83 tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in September 2019

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 69 tenders and a 51.9% share, followed by solar with 51 tenders and a 38.3% share and hydro with nine tenders and a 6.8% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in September 2019, with 222 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (79) and Generation Equipment (65).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

1. Project Implementation: 214 tenders and a 50.4% share
2. Supply & Erection: 113 tenders and a 26.6% share
3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 89 tenders and a 20.9% share
4. Consulting & Similar Services: five tenders and a 1.2% share
5. Electricity Supply: three tenders and a 0.7% share
6. Power Purchase Agreement: one tender and a 0.2% share.

Power tenders in September 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

1. NHPC (India): 2,000MW from one tender
2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,200MW from one tender
3. Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (India): 500MW capacity from one tender.
