There were 38 power plant tenders announced in the Asia-Pacific region in May 2020, marking a drop of 51% over the last 12-month average of 77, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

T&D Project stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in May 2020 with 212 tenders and a 51.8% share, followed by T&D Equipment with 110 tenders and a 26.9% share and Generation Equipment with 40 tenders and a 9.8% share during the month.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 30 tenders and a 78.9% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five tenders and a 13.2% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: three tenders and a 7.9% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant tenders in May 2020

Looking at power plant tenders by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 31 tenders with an 83.8% share, followed by hydro with six tenders and a 16.2% share.

Asia-Pacific power plant tenders in May 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Malaysia): 1,000MW from one tender
  2. NTPC (India): 600MW from one tender
  3. West Bengal State Electricity Distribution (India): 200MW capacity from one tender.
