Asia-Pacific power plant tenders activity down 27% in Q4 2019
Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

There were 209 power plant tenders announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q4 2019, marking a drop of 27% over the last 12-month average of 285, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

T&D Project stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q4 2019 with 991 tenders and a 53.3% share, followed by T&D Equipment with 335 tenders and an 18% share and Generation Equipment with 277 tenders and a 14.9% share during the quarter.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 154 tenders and a 73.7% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 34 tenders and a 16.3% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: 19 tenders and a 9.1% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and a 1% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant tenders in Q4 2019

Looking at power plant tenders by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 164 tenders with a 78.5% share, followed by thermal with 21 tenders and a 10% share and hydro with 16 tenders and a 7.7% share.

Asia-Pacific power plant tenders in Q4 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 3,000MW from four tenders
  2. NTPC (India): 2,514.16MW from nine tenders
  3. JSC Uzbekenergo (Uzbekistan): 900MW capacity from one tender.
