Asia-Pacific smart grid tenders activity up 146% in Q1 2021

There were 32 smart grid tenders announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q1 2021, marking a rise of 146% over the last four-quarter average of 13, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

T&D Equipment stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q1 2021 with 152 tenders and a 30.9% share, followed by Power Plant with 129 tenders and a 26.2% share and T&D Project with 126 tenders and a 25.6% share during the quarter.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 17 tenders and a 53.1% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 14 tenders and a 43.8% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: one tender and a 3.1% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific smart grid tenders in Q1 2021

Looking at smart grid tenders by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 13 tenders with a 100% share.

Asia-Pacific smart grid tenders in Q1 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of smart grid tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Housing & Development Board (Singapore): 70MW from one tender
  2. Namkha Rural Municipality: 0.15MW from two tenders
  3. Lismore City Council and Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development (Nepal): 0.1MW capacity from one tender.
