Electricity procurement tenders down 42% in Q4 2020

Electricity procurement tenders in Q4 2020 saw 32 tenders announced, marking a drop of 42% over the last four-quarter average of 55, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

1. Electricity Supply: 18 tenders and a 56.3% share
2. Power Purchase Agreement: 13 tenders and a 40.6% share
3. Project Implementation: one tender and a 3.1% share.

Europe leads electricity procurement activity in Q4 2020

Comparing tenders activity in electricity procurement segment in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 11 tenders and a share of 34.4% during Q4 2020, followed by North America with 11 tenders and a 34.4% share and South and Central America with eight tenders and a 25% share.

Solar is leading technology for electricity procurement tenders in Q4 2020

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 14 tenders with a 30.4% share, followed by wind with 14 tenders and a 30.4% share and biopower with ten tenders and a 21.7% share.

Electricity procurement tenders in Q4 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Spain): 6,100MW from two tenders
2. Ministerio de Minas y Energia (Colombia) (Colombia): 5,000MW from one tender
3. CPS Energy (United States): 1,450MW capacity from one tender.
