Energy storage tenders in January 2021 saw 21 tenders announced, marking a drop of 5% over the last 12-month average of 22, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 14 tenders and a 66.7% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: three tenders and a 14.3% share
  3. Project Implementation: three tenders and a 14.3% share
  4. Others: one tender and a 4.8% share.

North America leads energy storage activity in January 2021

Comparing tenders activity in energy storage segment in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 15 tenders and a share of 71.4% during January 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with four tenders and a 19% share and Europe with two tenders and a 9.5% share.

Solar is leading technology for energy storage tenders in January 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for eight tenders with a 42.1% share, followed by wind with three tenders and a 15.8% share and thermal with two tenders and a 10.5% share.

Energy storage tenders in January 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuer of energy storage tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved was:Islamic Development Bank (Saudi Arabia) with 9.5MW from one tender.
